Hey, nice to meet you, I'm Vanessa :)
I'm a Brazilian designer passionate about nature and people. In every single thing I design, there is a lot of me and a lot of others. My work is based on co-creation and collaboration - I think there is a magical element when we create things together (and, of course, human contact is fundamental to me!).
So part of the work is made in my studio in South East London, and part of the work is made by me and other artisans and small businesses in Brazil, my second home! Since the beginning of my journey with Behô, I was looking for working with Brazilians to use the brand as a source of income for these people. I grew up seeing a lot of social inequalities and I don't think we, as designers, can close our eyes to that. That is why the social impact was always important to me!
In parallel to Behô, I also work on other projects related to social innovation, such as Human Ink Lab.
Another really important thing for me is the materials we use to make our products - simple put: we NEED to respect the planet we live. For this reason, we use Recycled silver, Upcycled wood and Natural Gemstones. We want to respect the Circle of Life and make sure everything is coming back to nature without damaging it. Our boxes are also plantable, with some mustard seeds :)
Behô is a reference to the Portuguese word "Berro". Berro, according to the dictionary, means "the human voice when issued in a high and harsh tone. Scream”. My "Berro" started when I decided to find a purpose in my work, after long years working in fast fashion. Behô is the result of my purpose journey - and it is a small business with huge goals to make our world a better place to live by replacing toxic materials for natural, organic and recycled stuff in high-quality products. We support craftsmanship and artisans in Latin America and every piece has a kind of 'Latin soul'. Everything is created with care and made to last.
